A great angle for the image, but I feel it could have been a better picture in a more natural--or at least not so dark--light.

There's such a thing as too much contrast.

i understand, and appreciate your candor. my thinking was that i'd seen like fifty of these washington monuments pics, and i wanted a little something less orthodox. but you make a good point =)

Well, it's good. I will say that... I think, mostly for me, it's the clouds on the left side. They even the colors of the picture out and instead of your eyes being drawn to the monument itself, the first thing one notices is the bright white sky in the center of the image.
